Two Records Broken at Laayoune International Half Marathon





Laayoune - Kenyan Ebenyo Daniel Smiu and Moroccan Asmid Fatiha broke the records of the Laayoune International Half Marathon, held on Sunday to celebrate the 44th anniversary of the Green March.

Ebenyo Daniel Smiu set a time of 1h 00min 45sec, while Morocco's Zayani Mohamed (1h 01min 17sec) and the Ethiopian Mosisa Tefera (1h 01min 34 sec) finished on the second and third steps of the podium of the 21st edition of this event, organized under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI.

In women's competition, Asmid set a record time of 1h 10min 29 sec, ahead of Kenyan Jebet Norah (1h 10min 46 sec) and Moroccan Bouaasserya Keltoum (1h 11min 10 sec).

This race brought together athletes from different countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, France, the United States, Spain, Italy, Mauritania, Côte d'Ivoire, Sudan, Senegal, Bahrain, in addition to Moroccan athletes, said in a statement to the press director of the Laayoune International Half Marathon, Abdellah Jaddad.

This sporting event aims to enshrine the culture of sport in general and athletics in particular in the region, and to promote the progress and prosperity prevailing in the southern provinces, he added.
