The Wall Street Journal : Polisario, Marxist Group Linked to Regional Terrorism

Washington - While the international community is striving to reduce hotspots and restore peace and security, the Polisario continues to pose a serious threat to stability in North Africa and the Sahel. The Polisario is a Marxist group linked to regional terrorism, said "The Wall Street Journal" on Sunday. In a video testimony related to the Sahara issue, journalist Dion Nissenbaum discussed the genesis of this separatist movement of Marxist allegiance and how the non-settlement of the Sahara issue threatens peace and stability. The security situation in the region makes the resolution of the conflict a pressing need, said the US daily. This reality is widely acknowledged by US policymakers. The administration of President Donald Trump, who is countering the terrorist threat on several fronts, is heedful of the situation in the Sahara and Sahel region. Aware of the threat posed by the fake SADR, the White House is determined to put an end to this conflict, said to the daily, noting that the dynamic under way, under the UN auspices, is the safest and cheapest option to reach a consensual result. The United States "is clear, it will not support a plan that leads to the creation of a new African state," wrote the US paper. A new state in Africa may be less safe. If you try to establish a new country, it could create an area of which insurgents and groups like the Islamic State could take advantage and use as a sanctuary, said the journalist, noting that Washington and Rabat share the same position in this regard. Quoting foreign and Moroccan officials, the author assured that the United States is privately supporting Morocco on the Sahara issue. For the United States, independence is not an option for the settlement of the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, said the American newspaper.
