Rabat: FAAPA 2019 Grand Prix Awarded to Winners in Best Photo, Video Report and News Article Categories

Rabat - The 2019 Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) Grand Prix was awarded to the winners on Saturday at the closing ceremony of the Federation's 5th General Assembly, held on 29-30 November in Rabat.

The Grand Prix of the best photo went to the photographer, Ahou Suzanne Konan of Cote d'Ivoire’s News Agency (AIP), while the Ivorian image reporter/journalist, Kamongnin Sylla, received the Grand Prix of the best video report, established for the first time by the Federation.

The award of the best news article was awarded to the journalist Carmen Maria Santos, from the Cape Capeverdean News Agency "Inforpress" for her article "As long as God gives me strength, I will be there, happy and motivated to continue to beautify the streets".

Moved by this distinction, Konan expressed pride that her photo was awarded a FAAPA prize. It shows a baby dangerously protected by a plastic bag against rain on his mother's back who helps another lady load a heavy bowl of cassava pieces ready to be sent to a grinding machine.

For his part, Kamongnin produced a video entitled "In the world of women fish smokers", an itinerary of a painful daily struggle by women in Locodjoro, in the commune of Attécoubé.

He commended this distinction, which is for him the culmination of several years of multimedia activities, stressing that the introduction of the FAAPA Grand Prix is part of the actions that promote the quality of excellence in news agencies.

In the same vein, Santos expressed her joy at winning the award, praising FAAPA's efforts to encourage excellence and innovation among African news agencies.
